The MBA Opens Doors Foundation – Helping to Keep Families in their Homes 365 Days a Year!
By: Mary Clarke Stevens, Opens Doors Foundation Board Member
You would be hard pressed to meet someone who hasn’t been affected by a child’s illness. We all know a family member, a friend, a colleague or a neighbor who’s received the devastating news that their child is sick. We offer thoughts and prayers; we offer food and as much information and well wishes as we can, but we often forget about the financial toll on a family with a critically ill or critically injured child.
As a longtime board member of the MBA Opens Doors Foundation, I sit on the grant review committee. Every month since 2012, I have read the heartbreaking stories of children suffering from Leukemia, liver disease, severe respiratory ailments and many other serious illnesses. And I have read about the parents and guardians who sacrifice everything to be by their child’s side during treatment. One of the things they should not have to sacrifice, is their home. That’s why I believe in and support the MBA Opens Doors Foundation.
Since 2012, the Foundation has provided mortgage and rental payment assistance grants to more than 2,000 families from 40 states. That’s almost $3M in funds to families in need in communities across the country, giving them peace of mind while they focus on a sick child in need of treatment.
We are deeply grateful to the CMG Foundation for their support of Opens Doors and their support of families across America. Thank you CMG Foundation for all you do to help the families we serve! Please join us in Support of our mission and theirs at the CMG Foundations 8th Annual Wine Tasting and Charity Auction at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco in Union Square on the evening of Monday, July 16th!
