Meet Our Beneficiaries– The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area!
This year we want to give you the chance to learn a bit more about some of the incredible beneficiaries our organization works with and the missions they have set forth. In this week’s edition of “Meet our Beneficiaries” we want to take the opportunity to introduce you to an organization from the CMG Foundation’s own backyard—The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area.
The Cancer Support Community stands by their mission to provide all services free of charge, with a policy to never turn anyone away, regardless of what stage of the battle they’re currently fighting. This amazing open-door methodology has led the Community to assist over 2,000 cancer patients, as well as their families and close friends, each year. The CSC’s holistic approach to healing provides a variety of comprehensive integrative care approaches, including: counseling, support groups, nutrition, exercise, and a variety of patient education programs. All programs are delivered by professionals who are licensed or certified in their area of expertise and have been created based on empirical evidence of the positive impact they can have on cancer treatment outcomes and/or immune system functioning.
All of this incredible work has thus far been done out of their main center in Walnut Creek, CA and programs in medical centers and clinics around the East Bay. However, over the past two years CEO James Bouquin and the CSC have been working to elevate their outreach to a whole new level through the acquisition of a 6-acre property located just adjacent to the Lafayette Reservoir, nestled in the hills of Northern California. The CMG Foundation recently had the opportunity to visit this serene property site and speak with James about some of the amazing plans they have in place. With everything from a 1/2 acre garden to grow healing plants and produce, to an onsite kitchen which will provide cooking and nutrition classes and serve meals, to a large amphitheater, an abundance of walking trails for contemplation and escape, and much more: this new site is truly a tranquil getaway. Construction is still ahead, and the new center is currently slated for completion by the end of 2020; and we need your help to get them there!
The Cancer Support Community has demonstrated what can happen when care extends beyond the borders of a hospital bed. Their services enable cancer patients to partner with holistic treatment teams to manage the entire treatment and recovery journey. This network of support can increase chances of survival while reducing chances of recurrence, and ultimately provide for the highest possible quality of life. The Cancer Support Community has bravely made it their mission to combat this pervasive and devastating disease, and we here at the CMG Foundation consider it our honor and privilege to contribute to this noble cause. Please, come join us at our 8th Annual Wine Tasting and Charity Auction on Monday, July 16th at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco, where you can give towards the Cancer Support Community and support their efforts to help the many people affected by this battle.
